UPDATE: Authorities released autopsy results Tuesday and said they haven’t ruled out an anti-gay hate crime. Read more here.
Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson left Houston on Wednesday night for a trip to Galveston for Mardi Gras in their new car.
Their families never heard from them again, and early Friday morning, their bodies were discovered near a Dumpster outside a convenience store in Port Bolivar, on the island just north of Galveston. Police say they’d been murdered.
Cosby and Jackson, both 24-year-old Houston residents, had been together two years, and Jackson was the mother of a 5-year-old. Jackson was a barista at Starbucks, and Cosby was a security guard.
“That was her girlfriend, that was her soulmate,” one of Cosby’s neighbor’s, James Randle, told ABC, according to Elixher.
Investigators are searching for Cosby’s vehicle, a silver 2006 Kia Sorrento with paper tags. They were also awaiting autopsy results. They released a composite sketch late Sunday (above right) after the suspect reportedly was spotted driving the couple’s vehicle.
According to police, the two likely were murdered elsewhere, and their bodies brought to Port Bolivar to be dumped. They were discovered by a beer deliveryman outside the Fisherman’s Cove Food Mart & Convenience Store, near the landing of the ferry to Galveston.
It’s unclear whether the incident was an anti-gay hate crime. Anyone with information should call the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department at 866-248-8477.
