Honey Andrews has performed at the tribute for the murdered Latina superstar, who lived in Corpus Christi, for the last three years. But this year, organizer Mario Gomez informed Andrews she wasn’t invited back, according to KZTZ.
“Sorry to inform you but Sunday’s tribute is booked,” Gomez wrote in a message to Andrews (above right). “Nobody wants to see a male person dress up like a girl.”
According to Kiii News, Gomez added: “I don’t want you there. I will have the police deal with you.”
Andrews said she didn’t want to make a big deal out of the incident, but decided to speak out so bullied LGBT youth know it’s not OK.
“Especially in this day and age, where there are so many cases of young teens committing suicide, hurting themselves because they get hurt and bashed because of comments like this. … Anybody in my shoes, if they were to read that, they would have been devastated.”
Gomez later apologized and invited Andrews to perform at the tribute on Sunday at Corpus Christi’s Cole Park, but Andrews said she’ll perform at another upcoming Selena tribute instead. Watch Kiii’s report below.
